Triumphs and Luckygray's For This Weekend's Rewind

MORRISON’S DAY-NIGHT, A LONG TIME COMING
It has been a long-time coming for jockey Ms. Lacey Morrison, who won twice and finished second four times on Saturday in Queensland. Following a near-death injury on Ipswich Cup Day in 2008, Morrison’s road back has included having to re-learn to walk and talk after 90% of her brain swelled and spinal injuries kept her on the ground for 15 minutes following a four-horse collision four years ago. On Saturday, the former Toowoomba schoolgirl won twice and was second another three times at Texas, before picking off another second place finish at Toowoomba later that night. An accomplished rider, prior, Morrison was the first female rider to finish in the Brisbane top-10 (in 2002/03).

Here’s a story of her comeback from June: http://tinyurl.com/c2chvlu

LUCKYGRAY WINS KINGSTON TOWN CLASSIC
LUCKYGRAY  proved worthy in winning the $500,000 Kingston Town Classic at Ascot on Saturday.  Luckygray, who has now won 12 times in 18 starts, also won the rematch with MR MOET.  The win over 1800m also snapped Mr Moet’s five-race win streak as Mr Moet had won the last head-to-head, the Railway Stakes over 1600m, on 24 November.

AUSTRALIAN DAY IN HONG KONG
Over in Hong Kong on Sunday, it was a day for Australian jockeys Zac Purton and Brett Prebble, who rode winners on five of the first seven starters.  Purton produced the day’s only treble, starting his day with a second place finish to Prebble, before taking home his first win, in the Singapore Handicap (1400m) on Owners’ Pride. He went onto win the Tokyo Handicap (1800m) on Taknam, before finishing off an impressive day with a win on Ambitious Dragon in the G1 Hong Kong Mile.  Prebble scored his own double with Solar Great in the Paris Handicap and Frederick Engels in the Dublin Handicap (1200m). Red Cadeaux meanwhile, closed off a close win in the 2400m G1 Hong Kong Vase. Other Australian-known horses were not as lucky. Sea Siren was a disappointing ninth in the Hong Kong Sprint (1200m), while Dunaden was fifth in the Hong Kong Vase.

ALCOPOP’S GALANT RUN FOR THIRD
Maybe Alcopop has some ‘pop’ left in the tank. The one-time favourite for the Melbourne Cup, finished third in the G1 2000m Hong Kong Cup, after battling back from the back of the pack to become the first Australian galloper since Elegant Fashion in 2003 to place. Alcopop was coming off a win of the G1 Mackinnon Stakes and second place finishes in the G1 Caulfield Cup and G1 Caulfield Stakes prior to Sunday's running.

POWER TO THE PRINCESS
Also at Ascot, the favourite POWER PRINCESS won by nearly two lengths in the $125,000 AJ Scahill Stakes 1400m for career win No. 11 and $715,000 in career earnings. The 6yo Mare has picked up nearly $265,000 her last three starts-- a win of the Prince of Wales Stakes, a second place finish in the Winterbottom Stakes and Saturday’s win.

MORPHETTVILLE DOUBLE
Doubles were the name of the game at Morphettville as jockeys Dom Tourneur, Ben Claridge, Jason Holder and Simon Price each won twice over the eight races on Saturday, with Price riding HIDDEN VALUE to the 4yo gelding’s fourth-straight victory.

EARNINGS MILESTONES
STARTSMEUP moved across the $700,000 plateau in career earnings with career win No. 7 at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The 5yo gelding has won three of his last four and four of his last six.... It was 13 months between wins for 8yo DOWN UNDER BOY, who won his seventh race in career race No. 67. It also pushed the Seymour-trained gelding to over $500,000 in career earnings.

MOUNT ISA VETERANS
Two eight year olds are showed there’s still a little bit left in their old legs with wins at Mount Isa on Saturday.  Julia Creek-trained LEFT BEHIND has finished in the top-two in eight of his last nine races following a 1000m win at Mount Isa, while ANCONI, has now won four of his last six and placed in eight of his last 12, following  a 1200m win.

HOT STARTS TO A CAREER
Chris Waller has trained HEART TESTA to three-straight wins to start his career following a 1200m win at Rosehill Gardens on Friday... BALTRA was one of two winners for jockey Brendan Ward at Wagga, as the 5yo has won his first four starts...  CHEVAL DU FEU has started his career with three-straight following a 1200m win at Gold Coast, winning in by a head.

HOT RUNNERS
POWLETT (NZ) has now won three-straight following a 1200m win at Darwin, one of two wins for apprentice jockey Koby Jennings on Saturday... GLOBAL FLIRT has now won three in a row, all since 21 November, following a 2200m win at Ascot... TEEN IDOL has not finished any lower than fourth in his young career (5—3:0:0) following a 1100m win at Ascot, giving the 4yo three wins and three fourth place finishes... STARFIELD IMAGE has also won three-straight, winning at Bunbury after a five-week layoff... REPROBATE has picked up four of his seven career wins over his last five starts, winning three-straight since 9 October after a 1200m win at Townsville.... SOMETHINGABOUTMAX was half of jockey Ms. Dani Walker’s double at Balnarring and the third-straight win for the 6yo gelding, trained out of Cranbourne.

STILL RUNNING STRONG
THE TAPDANCER won for the second time in three races, racing for the 81st time in his career to win at Quirindi... 9yo MANETTINO won his 72nd career race, winning for the second time in three tries, out at Moulamein.
