Missy Longstocking Continues Rise and Moody Trebles

WINNING DAY FOR MOODY
Trainer Peter Moody produced a treble at Moonee Valley on Saturday, including QUICK SNITZEL (5—3:0:0), who won his third-straight following a 1600m win in the $100,000 City Jeep Handicap. Quick Snitzel prevailed in a race that saw the top-five separated by one-half of a length. Moody also won with GENUINE SPIN (NZ) and MELIORA, as a part of a double for jockey Luke Nolen. Meliora has now won three of her last four and Genuine Spin has placed in six of eight career races.

JUVENILE CONTINUES TO RISE
MISSY LONGSTOCKING (4—4:0:0) heads towards the $1.6 million Magic Millions in a fortnight as a likely favourite on the Gold Coast after winning her fourth-straight to start her career. The filly won the $150,000 G3 McLachlan Stakes over 1200m on Saturday after a win of the $100,000 Calaway Gal Stakes the weekend prior.

FURY BREAKS THROUGH
Glen Boss rode ALMA’S FURY (29—5:2:7) to a narrow victory over FILLYDELPHIA in the $200,000 Bernborough Handicap at Doomben. It had been nearly a year for the 5yo gelding since his last victory, at Rosehill in January, 2012. Over the previous 11 races, Alma’s Fury had one runner-up and three third-place finishes.

HUSTLING TO THE WIN
Jockey Matthew Palmer, aboard LUCKY HUSSLER (6—3:1:0), edged Chris Munce and SIZZLING for the $150,000 G3 Rogue Plate at Doomben. It was the 3yo’s third win in his last four races. The favourite, Sizzling, had entered the race with five wins over his last eight starts. Munce would end up pulling off a double at Doomben, prior to taking a break for Cancer treatment (his story is here:

MUNDY REMEMBERED
Gold Coast-based jockey Ashlee Mundy (left) was remembered on Monday after never recovering from a fall in New Zealand on Sunday. The New Zealander, Mundy had spent Christmas with her family as was planning on racing around the Southern Island. According to the AAP, Mundy rode 232 winners in New Zealand and 43 in Queensland. Here is a full story about Mundy http://tinyurl.com/b6c2nkp

COLLESS PERSEVERES
Jockey Glen Colless won four times at Murwillumbah on Sunday, showing the continued resolve of the top jockey. This past July he nearly broke a leg at Doomben, but x-rays showed deep bruising instead. And, it’s been nearly 18 months since Colless escaped serious injury in July, 2011 after another fall at Doomben. The concussion caused partial memory loss, but two riders avoided the fallen Colless, which would have resulted in the jockey being trampled.

TREICHEL DOUBLES UP
Jockey Terry Treichel rode back-to-back doubles over the weekend, winning twice on Friday at Coffs Harbour, before doubling up on Saturday at Gold Coast. This was following a Boxing Day victory at Coffs Harbour. Two weeks ago, Treichel rode four winners at Moree, giving the jockey a strike rate of 43% (nine wins in 21 starts) since 22 December.

IT IS AS EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE
Jockey Greg Ryan picked up a double on Saturday at Scone and then bettered that at Warren on Sunday with a treble. The last week also saw Ryan ride a winner at Orange on Christmas Eve.
