NINTH
TREBLE FOR RAWILLER
Brad
Rawiller (left) picked up his ninth treble of the season, at Flemington on Saturday, riding
LORD OF BRAZIL (NZ) (22: 10-7-1) to his tenth career victory and third win over
his last four tries. Rawiller rode the
favourite for trainer Darren Weir in the $100,000 Craftsman Handicap, before
finishing his day with a win on DANISH WHISKEY (19: 5-2-1). Rawiller also
turned the fortunes of GOLDSLICK (22: 8-1-1), who produced a winner for the
first time since July. Rawiller is the Australia premiership leader this season
with 90 wins and $2.5 million in prize money.
FIRST
COMMAND WITH BOSS
Glen
Boss has rode FIRST COMMAND (31: 12-6-2) to two wins in January, as the gelding
continues to prove his class in the easier grade and further show that he is
well on his way for another tilt in the feature sprints in the coming months. The
win at Flemington in the 1000m $120,000 Kensington Stakes, brought the gelding
to over $929,000 in career earnings and was his biggest prize since he was the
runner-up in $750,000 G1 Telegraph Handicap in New Zealand.
WATERHOUSE
COLT BEATS HARD LUCK FAVOURITE
One
day, FUERZA (2: 0-2-0) is going to win, but on Saturday it was another maiden
win that up-ended the young colt. In the $250,000 running of the Inglis
Classic, Gai Waterhourse’s colt MARSEILLE ROULETTE won by half a head over the $3.10
favourite FUERZA. In December, stable mate TWILIGHT ROYALE, won her maiden race
against Fuerza in the $250,000 Inglis Nursery.
CALLOW’S
TREBLE AT CRANBOURNE
Noel
Callow continues to produce winners, wherever he races. On Saturday, he
produced a treble at Cranbourne, giving him $368,000 in prize money and 20 wins
this season. He spent five years in East Asia, and is considered to be Singapore’s most successful jockey,
following the country’s first 100-win season in 2007 (107 wins). A Monday story in the Sydney Daily Telegraph

APPRENTICE
JOCKEY BUILDING UP STRONG CV
Apprentice
jockey Courtney Van der Werf (left) is putting together a strong season in NSW,
continuing to ride with a heavy heart after the loss of her close friend and
fellow Kiwi jockey, Ashley Mundy, on New Year’s Eve following a fall. This past
Saturday at Tamworth, Van der Werft picked up a double, winning aboard MAGNA
AMICA and SARAH’S SON. This was after a country treble on New Year’s Day at
Inverell, 24 hours after Mundy’s death. The 18yo started the NSW apprentice
program in May, 2012 and has won 35 times this season (17% strike rate). Here’s the complete story on Van der
Werf here: http://tinyurl.com/atrdkc4
CAHILL’S
DOUBLES COME IN BUNCHES
Jockey Michael Cahill produced his 13th
and 14th double this season, winning twice at Ipswich on Friday,
before two more winners on Sunday at Sunshine Coast. His week began with
another double at Doomben. It was the third time this season he has produced
doubles over a three-day span, also doing it two weeks ago in January and in
October, 2012. Cahill now has $2.7 million in prize money and 73 wins over 402
races this season.
