RISA News and Notes


TRIPLE-THREAT FOR RAWILLER
Brad Rawiller (left) posted back-to-back trebles in an incredible weekend on the track, riding YOU THINK SO (NZ), COMMANDING TIME and LORD OF BRAZIL (NZ) to wins on Saturday at Moonee Valley before posting a personal trifecta with KING DIAMOND, SINGLE WARRIOR and DANISH WHISKEY at Ballarat on Sunday. In winning with King Diamond, it was Rawiller’s third-straight win of the Ballarat Cup. Rawiller also posted a treble at Geelong last Saturday, 18 November and doubles on 20 November (at Echuca) and 15 November (at Seymour).

RED HOT BARAKEY
BARAKEY continued his impressive CV with a win of the Winterbottom Stakes 1200m on Saturday at Ascot. The 5yo gelding has now won all 11 races in his career, accumulating $686,900 in prize money.

MILLION-DOLLAR MOET
MR MOET meanwhile, moved across $1 million in career earnings following a win of the 1600m Railway Stakes, beating out the favourite LUCKYGRAY. It was the 11th win for the 5yo gelding.

 TROUBLE WITH TREBLES
It was a treble for jockey Patrick Carbery at Bunbury on Sunday, riding FOXY COMMANDER, ASTRA SKY and HANDFUL OF DUST to winners in Western Australia.... Hobart saw its own treble for Brendon McCoull and his three wins aboard SHORT STORY (NZ), STREETWISE SAVOIRE and GRAND TYCOON.... apprentice jockey Lester Grace pulled off a treble at Newcastle on Saturday winning back-to-back races with L’UCCELLO ROSSO and WATT LUCK, before sitting out a race and then winning again aboard CLOUD VALLEY (NZ). It was been a nice run for Grace, who had nine wins over seven days.

COMBING FOR WINS
BEACHCOMBER won for the first time since April, 2012, racing to a 1000m win at Dalby. It was his tenth career win (in won 20 races) but first since the now 6yo won nine of 11 races from June, 2010 to April, 2012.

RIDING THEIR OWN STREAKS
It’s been four-straight weekends jockey Tony Patillo has scored a double, following wins on PACE EGG and CHEVAL DU FEU at Gold Coast on Saturday.... jockey Vlad Duric posted two doubles this past week, winning twice at Cranbourne on Friday following a double, last Wednesday, at Sale (he also rode a winner on Saturday at Moonee Valley for good measure). Duric is riding a streak of five wins over his last 12 runs.

LOOK TO THE FUTURE
First declarations for the January $1 million 2yo Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield have been taken with trainer David Hayes nominating 47 of the over 500 juveniles.  Mick Price has another 40 nominations. Fastnet Rock has sired nearly 10 percent of the lot, 47, while More Than Ready, the sire of last year’s winner, Samaready, has another 28.

ROYAL DECREE
The Hong Kong Jockey Club will host a runner owned by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, when Carlton House lines up for the Hong Kong Cup in early December. That field includes: local hope California Memory, Australian-trained Alcopop and top European stayer Cirrus de Aigles. Of note, the Queen’s granddaughter, Zara Phillips, won a silver medal at the London Olympics in an equestrian team event and was featured on last night’s 60 Minutes.

OLD TIMERS STILL RUNNING STRONG
9yo IMA JOKER won career race No. 84 over 1000m at Sunshine Coast. The gelding has won his last two and four of six, giving him 18 career wins... one more shot was left for Bite the Bullet (USA) sired 8yo DISCARDED BULLET, who won his 61st start at Atherton... it was 10 career wins for 8yo KEEN ON YOU who won his 69th running and has now won two of his last three in Queensland... 9yo gelding SIMON TOWN is still going strong following his 59th career race, a win in a 1200m run at Hay on Saturday, one of two wins for apprentice jockey Brodie Loy... a couple of 8yo’s also picked off wins at Ballina, as TICTACS won for the seventh time in 53 starts and GETYOUROWN ran for the 78th time and won her 14th running.... 7yo gelding KINGS DANSEUR ran his 55th race, and won for the first time in 24 starts, picking up his sixth career win at Grafton over 2100m... the golden years did not derail two at Geraldton, as 52-race strong 7yo MANAGING DIRECTOR had one of two wins for jockey Robert Markout and 6yo MARDELLA FLYER won for the seventh time in his 53rd runnings... 8yo TEST CENTURY ran for the 57th time, posting his fifth win, at Clare over 1200m, while fellow 8yo LITTLE ADAM won his second-straight start, the 56th and 57th of his career.

HOT RUNNINGS
The 3yo filly GOLDEN SUNSHINE made it 3-for-3 with a win in a 1100m race at Rosehill Gardens for trainer Rick Worthington, all since 28 October... YOU THINK SO (NZ) picked up his second win in his last three starts (and 12th placing in 16 starts) following a 3000m win at Moonee Valley... LORD OF BRAZIL (NZ) is another hot runner with a 1600m win at Moonee Valley for his ninth win and 16th placing in 20 starts. He has won six times over his last nine races....  PEGGIE’S DREAM has now won six times in seven starts following a 1200m win at Ascot on Saturday... four of the six wins for CANTONESE have come since 7 October following a 2000m win at Rosehill Gardens. The 5yo gelding has won four of his last five starts, all thanks to apprentice jockey Ms. Jenny Duggan, who picked up a double on Saturday with Cantonese and PENTASIA... SASTRUGA was red hot as well at Rosehill Gardens, winning her third-straight start and has four wins in nine starts overall... LET’S TRY LONGER won his fifth-straight race over at Alice Springs, giving the 5yo seven wins and a runner-up finish in 17 tries.

AND FINALLY...
It was a long-time coming for 7yo WILLY’S BOY, who won at Mornington, for the first time in 25 career starts and DARK HOMBRE, he also finally won, racing to victory over 1100m at Mount Isa in start No. 20.
